Civic involvement key to stemming tide of violence

You’ve just picked up this newspaper and are likely shocked at the story about 18-year-old Kennah Wilson and her unborn child being shot and killed Friday night. Four others, including two 15-year-olds, were also wounded in the East Oakland shooting.

I don’t have “the answer” but I do have a suggestion:
The City should set up a city-wide “civic suggestion program”
where residents can make suggestions for issues in their
neighborhood or for the whole city. This will not cost a penny
other than printing up some forms. This has been very successful in other cities. When suggestions result in savings
for the City, the person offering the suggestion can receive
a small cash award. When the suggestion saves lives, then the
“suggester” should get a Thank You from all Oaklanders.
