Underground explosion causes Oakland power outages

Fire crews responded to a downtown Oakland underground utility vault explosion and fire about 1:30 p.m. today, an Oakland fire dispatcher said.

The fire, at 18th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way, was quickly extinguished and a PG&E repair team is on its way to the scene. No one was injured, but some downtown businesses reported power outages.
