Brushfire threatens homes in Oakland Hills

A three-alarm brushfire is threatening homes in the Oakland Hills near where the disastrous 1991 wildfire began, authorities said today.

The fire is burning on a slope near Buckingham Boulevard and Charing Cross and Tunnel roads above the Caldecott Tunnel, said Lt. David Brue of the Oakland Fire Department. The blaze was reported at 11:18 a.m. and had grown to two acres by noon.
